Ram Jack Installs (20) Helical Piles to Support a Large Column on the Rosemont Pedestrian Expansion Bridge in Houston, TX
Project Description
The Rosemont Bridge is a Pedestrian Expansion Bridge over Buffalo Bayou located near downtown Houston. One of the main supports of the bridge was showing damage from the strong water flow of Buffalo Bayou from Tropical Storm Harvey in 2018. CSF Engineering contacted Ramjack to help design and install helical piles to stabilize the support. Fortified Engineering worked with CSF Engineering to design a pile layout and pile design for the given loads inside of a new pile cap. Because the project was on the bank of the bayou, Ramjack had to install all Vertical Piles and Tie-Backs from a barge docked in the bayou. Ramjack installed (12) 3 ½” vertical piles with a 49.5 kip capacity to an embedment depth of 60’. (8) 2 7/8” Tie Backs were installed at a 45 degee batter to resist lateral loads. The embedment depth of the tiebacks extended to 30’. Ramjack completed the job on time and within budget.
