Project Overview

The heavy steel entry gates at the entry of the EPA facility in Durham were leaning from years of use. The original concrete footers were not strong enough to sustain the open/close tension the metal gates were putting on them. To repair and stabilize the gates, Ram Jack Foundation Solutions designed a connection which used 2 helical tiebacks pulling from both sides to bring the gate back to level and keep it in place. The connection to the gate was a custom plate designed to bolt to the metal gate post. 16 helical tiebacks were installed to an average depth of 15 feet for 8 gates using 1.66” diameter helical anchors with a single 8" helical bearing plate. The soils were normal clay and the job was completed in one day.

Prior to the repair, the gates had to be anchored to the concrete posts using chains to remain functional.

The heavy metal gates were sagging at the end due to the failing concrete posts.

Helical anchors attached to gate post with custom connection bracket.

Repaired gate hanging perfectly straight.
