Coastal Foundation Solutions (CFS) was contracted by Auto Builders General Contracting Services, Inc. to install nearly 200 piles for a Mercedes Benz Dealership in West Palm Beach. The foundation pilings are to support the addition of a 31,122 sq. ft, one-story above grade service station/car wash facility and a 26,612 sq. ft., one-story above grade parking garage.
Although there was a soil report completed by Ardaman & Associates, Inc. in April of 2020, the contractor wanted to verify the pile depth prior to the ordering of material. CFS installed two test piles on site. The test piles achieved their required torque at the anticipated depth.
CFS purchased the helical piles from Earth Contact Products. The piles were initially delivered to the dealership at the end of November. In order to limit the time the dealership lost parking spots because of materials and equipment, CFS got right to work. The crews commenced work on December 6, 2021. It took (14) working days with a three-man crew to install the pilings. (190) piles were originally specified, but due to a few piles not reaching specified torque, an additional (7) were installed.
The crew endured numerous rainy days on site and mucky conditions. The pile monitor from Universal Engineering had access to the software apps connected to our digital torque indicators. He was able to observe in real time the installation torque of the piles. The leads were 10’ long SS200 with 10”-12”-14” bearing plates, and leads were connected to SS200 10’ extensions. Piles were terminated with a 12” x 12” x 1” welded plate after being installed to an average depth of 50 feet. The capacity of the piles was 130 kips ultimate.
