The Fort Myers Waterfront district is situated along the Caloosahatchee shore and features many modern waterfront homes which were subjected to Hurricane Ian’s wrath. As river opens out to the Gulf of Mexico, the storm surge had a direct impact on many structures. Unfortunately, many homes were destroyed or unable to be rebuilt due to FEMA and county regulations. The project we are referencing was located directly on the river and incurred a major scour event on the swimming pool and associated seawall. The retaining wall and a portion of the pool were severely undermined from the scouring event. Coastal Foundation Solutions contracted with Gulf Harbour Yacht Club resident to provide remedial services to correct the erosion factors and stabilize his pool structure. We commenced to install sixteen (16) underpinning piles to a depth of 28 foot. In addition, we provided structural fill infusion and injected structural foam to finalize void filling. With the impact of climate change increasingly noticeable in Florida, waterfront property owners will need to be more vigilant about ground movement and know how to identify the signs of foundation issues early to ensure professionals such as Coastal Foundation Solutions are able to remediate the issue before the damage becomes too severe and too costly to address.
