The CFS team recently undertook a significant project for the esteemed Barnhill Seafood Market, situated at the heart of Matlacha, FL. With a longstanding history spanning roughly 40 years, Barnhill Seafood Market holds a cherished place within our community. When Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc upon our island, Matlacha bore the brunt of its wrath. Gratefully, Coastal Foundation Solutions was entrusted with the task of stabilization. Upon being contacted by owner Carrie Barnhill, we assessed the extensive damage, noting cracks spanning the exterior of the building. Our evaluation revealed a combination of settlement and uplift caused by the ferocious winds. To remedy the situation, we strategically installed seven underpinning piles along the Northeast side of the structure, where the most significant block separation and stair-stepping were evident. Given the constrained access, our team utilized a Vermeer 160 and a 10k Digga drive to install the underpinning piles. Despite challenging soil conditions and the absence of marked electrical lines, we diligently hand-dug each location to avoid any potential hazards. These RS2875.217 12” x 14” piles were driven to a depth of 14 feet, with a capacity of approximately 2500 ft lbs, providing an additional 80 tons of support to the northeast side, effectively bolstering the structural integrity. Our efficient mobilization and demobilization processes enabled us to complete the task within a single day, ensuring minimal disruption. Following the stabilization, the owner approached us to address the existing cracks on the building. In the coming weeks, we plan to return to apply a specialized epoxy to rectify the stair-stepping cracks, restoring cohesion to the concrete after thorough grinding. We take pride in our work and are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the preservation of our community's cherished landmarks. Below, you'll find images documenting our progress throughout the project. Thank you for considering Coastal Foundation Solutions for your stabilization needs.
