GoliathTech helical piles are an excellent choice for your projects, and our piles are in compliance with every building code. In the event of non-compliance, your project may be considered unsafe or illegal by your municipality, which could result in demolition. When it’s time to sell your property, this is considered to be a DEFECT. Make sure that with every helical pile project you get a certificate of conformity stating specifically that the helical piles meet the requirements of the structure they are supporting.

In May 2018, the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) revised the requirements of the national building code of Canada. Pursuant to the revisions, a CCMC bulletin was released on November 30th, 2018 to help clarify the important requirements including having an engineer stamp for the specific project, calculating all applicable loads such as uplift, bearing and lateral forces or any combination of those loads. CCMC also mentions that every helical pile installer must be a certified installer. It also states that the steel must meet the standards CSA G40.20/G40.21 or ASTM A 500. CCMC emphasizes that helical piles and all accessories must be hot-dipped galvanized meeting the requirements of CAN/CSA-G164 or ASTM A123/A123M unless a report of a certified engineer states that the conditions of the soils at the project site are not corrosive. Installed helical piles with sections standing above grade or those installed in back-filled soils are deemed to be in a corrosive environment and must be hot-dipped galvanized.

Make sure to obtain a certificate that attests to the compliance of your project, as well as your helical screw piles’ allowable loads. A stamped technical specification sheet is not considered to be a certificate specifically for that job, and therefore does not ensure compliance. Make sure to get an engineer stamp specifically for the address of the project.
