MPS Civil Group on the Move in U.S. and International Markets
by Bill Bonekemper
March 25, 2014
In spite of the harsh winter of 2013-14, the MPS Civil Group (MPS) has been very busy showcasing its helical pile and helical anchor products in major tradeshows as well as hosting new international clients at the Birmingham, AL manufacturing facility. The MPS technical and sales staff product promotion activities included:
- World of Concrete – January, Las Vegas, NV
- Hosting Sochi Olympic Contractors – February, Birmingham, AL
- Environmental Connection Annual Conference & Expo – February, Nashville, TN
- CONEXPO - CON/AGG – March, Las Vegas, NV
World of Concrete
The annual World of Concrete (WOC) Exposition was held this past January in Las Vegas, NV. The WOC Expo brings contractors, engineers, and architects from around the world together to swap new ideas, to attend educational seminars, and to browse innovative new products they can use to bring value to their customers.
MPS has presented its line of Dixie brand helical foundation piles at WOC for ten years running. This year’s team of MPS professionals attending WOC included Mike Jennings, Jeff Warchall, P.E., Mark Bryant, E.I.T., and Matt Esquibel. The new MPS Vortex Pile – a high-capacity grouted helical pipe pile (click here for more information) was featured in the booth, and the team provided technical product information as well as engineering support information for interested visitors. In addition to showcasing the company’s helical pile and helical anchor products, four additional anchoring products were featured in the booth including the Manta Ray, Duckbill, Sting Ray and the MacLean Power Grip (click here for more information).
“By bringing our comprehensive offering of earth anchoring systems to the attention of the marketplace, the MPS Civil Group is advancing our vision of not just offering a comprehensive product line, but also focusing on offering total solutions to our customers”, said MPS engineer Mark Bryant.
Hosting Sochi Olympic Contractors
In mid February, MPS Civil Group representatives hosted engineers and sales representatives from its newest international customer at the company’s Birmingham, AL facility. The representatives are employees of an innovative contracting company that recently installed MPS Civil products as part of the support solution for the crane system (similar to a cable railroad) used to transport building materials to construct facilities for the Olympic Games in Sochi. “This innovative crane design had never been attempted anywhere on the planet, but it was extremely successful in showcasing innovations in design and construction,” said MPS’s sales manager for key accounts, Matt Esquibel.
The two day visit to the MPS Birmingham facility included sessions on the history of helical products and their many applications, technical sessions on the design and use of helical products, and an in-depth demonstration of the MDRS online helical product design software. “Our new customers were so impressed with the MDRS software, they have decided to translate the interface into their local languages”, commented MPS engineer Mark Bryant.
The visitors also spent time in the field observing a helical pile installation project managed by MacLean installer - Parrot Structural Service (www.parrotss.com). “A big thank you goes to Parrot owner, Mike Maas, and his team for a great job,” said Mark Bryant. As is the case for all guests who visit MPS in Birmingham, our visitors were treated to the best in good old USA down home southern barbeque and ribs.
Environmental Connection 2014 Annual Conference & Expo
The MPS Civil Products team again exhibited the company’s helical pile and anchor products at the 2014 Environmental Connection Annual Conference & Expo (ECACE) that was held at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center in Nashville, TN in late February. ECACE is the premier international show for the erosion, sediment control and ground stabilization markets - some of the fastest growing construction segments. The two day event attracted over 1,700 attendees from 26 countries, and attendees were able to see products on display and talk with representatives from more than 160 exhibitors.
The MPS team met with current and prospective distributors and customers from both the domestic and international markets including Brazil and France among others. Attendance at ECACE 2014 was 10% larger than last year - another sign that construction industry activity continues to rebound.
CONEXPO - CON/AGG
MPS Civil Products group traveled to Las Vegas, NV in March to exhibit in CONEXPO-CON/AGG - North America’s largest trade show that draws over 130,000 people from around the world and is held every three years. The MPS Civil team met with existing international customers and also formed new relationships with representatives from every imaginable segment of the construction industry. The MPS Civil team also evaluated the merits for exhibiting in CONEXPO in 2017. Only one helical pile and helical anhcor manufacturer exhibited in this year’s show. “While our team was speaking with a drive head manufacturer in their booth, another attendee complained that he couldn’t find any helical pile suppliers,” commented MPS engineer Jeff Warchall. “Our experience with the show’s enormous attendance and the fact that the construction industry appears to finally be on the recovery suggests that CONEXPO and MPS Civil Group will be a good match in 2017,” said MPS Civil sales manager Mike Jennings.
